If I Speak, I Am Condemned

If I stay silent... I am damned...

I've always loved this moment of contemplation that Valjean has about... maybe turning himself in so this other guy doesn't end up being punished for something he didn't do...
He goes back and forth; weighs out the good and the bad... If I remember correctly, it's like... 5 pages or something in the book... a HUGE chapter... summarized beautifully in song

I've actually wanted to make this for a LONG time; seriously, the sketch was done since early November and I JUST got it done TODAY!
And I'm SO GLAD it's finally done!


I think the main reason I wanted to do this so badly was... well, for one the context of this scene; I've always loved it... the reason... was Valjean's coat!
Ohhh my gosh!
I WANT THAT COAT!
I don't even know why!!
Also I enjoyed getting the contrast shadows... the idea of light and dark, right and wrong... This was heaps of fun to make! I'm still trying to get the heavy contrast shading right... I'm happy with it though!
The only problems I had was... in the scene there was... stuff... on that table where his hand is resting... a lot of it
I don't even know what it was, but it was very cluttered and added dimension to it; a sense of atmosphere. As much as I really didn't wanna draw them in, the table would look absolutely bare and it wouldn't look as good... So, I just kinda... lazily drew some of the bits in there. So sorry if it just looks like... random bits of black candles or whatever; can someone whose seen the movie/read the book tell me what they're supposed to be?
