EDIT: Here is the differently shaded one --> [link]

*SIGH*
I promised myself I'd animal-ize other characters from Les Misérables, and DANG GUMMIT, IT'S GONNA HAPPEN!!!
:mwahaha:

Javert Is A Lion
...
Yeeeaaah... That's basically how I saw him. ^^;

Now, here's the thing... Javert isn't really a "villain" per-say... :hmm: he's an antihero: what he's doing is for the benefit of what the law considers right and wrong; he's trying to establish order, which is something we as humans need. However, it's pointed out (several times, paragraph by paragraph :dizzy: lol) in the book, that Javert has NEVER felt doubt; he never second guessed anything in his entire life (and yet his antithesis, Jean Valjean, CONSTANTLY second guesses himself! :dummy: lol)
He is very arrogant, self-righteous, and has no mercy, pity, forgiveness, regret, remorse or anything of the sort in his heart... And that's... where this song comes in to play!
I've ALWAYS loved the song Stars! It's just... DAAAAHHH!!!!!
:iconiheartitplz:
It's a song that cements his certainty in the law and the concept of right and wrong... everything he believes in... to him, it's as true as the stars in the sky...
Also, he points out that stars are constant, that they always shine in the night; that's just what/who they are... Since they can't change what they are, neither can people... To Javert, such a notion is simply IMPOSSIBLE (like, oh, i dunno, Valjean changing his life)
:eager: That's how thick-headed this guy is, people! :eager:
lol

Here's the song... well, two versions of it:
stage version [link] amgamgamgajsghdbsdkz I freaking love his voooiiiiice :dalove:
movie version [link] loves the musiiic SOOO much! :D In the movie it transitioned to another song and I LOVED that part of the music... but it's not in this one. Oh, wellz

Javert:
There out in the darkness
A fugitive running
Fallen from God
Fallen from grace
God be my witness
I never shall yield
'Till we come face to face
'Till we come face to face

He knows his way in the dark
Mine is the way of the Lord
Those who follow the path of the righteous
Shall have their reward
And if they fall as Lucifer fell
The flame, the sword

Stars
In your multitudes
Scared you'll be counted
Filling the darkness
With order and light
You are the sentinels
Silent and sure
Keeping watch in the night
Keeping watch in the night

You know your place in the sky
You hold your course and your aim
And each in your season returns, and returns
And is always the same
And if you fall as Lucifer fell
You'll fall in flames

And so it must be
For so it is written
On the doorway to paradise
That those who falter and those who fall
Must pay the price!

Lord, let me find him
That I may see him
Safe behind bars
I will never rest!
'Till then, this I swear!
This I swear by the stars!

And... maybe I'm a minority on this, but I liked Russell Crowe's singing in the movie. :la: Was he powerful? No, he just had the calm, dignified decor that I know Javert to have (confidence doesn't have to be loud ;p) Is he the best? For me, no... THAT title belongs to Philip Quast [link] ('dem sidebuuuurrrrns :giggle:) But still! I thought he did really well. :thanks:
I just... *sigh* loved the instrumentals better in the film version... if I could combine Philip's voice with the music in the movie... SQUEE!! :excited: lol But... I still enjoy both; I feel like I'm the only one who can be pleased by both stage and film medium... OH AND FYI, Norm Lewis was a great Javert too!

ANYWAYS! PICTURE-WISE

I had A LOT of fun making this!! His design was sooo much fun... he had to have them shoulder pads with the frillies :happybounce: I had... at LEAST 9 different poses and angles in mind... I wish I had the patience to do all of them... maybe I'll do another one sometime, but I wanted to capture that point in the song, near the end when... just thinking about Valjean, THE ONE THAT KEEPS GETTING AWAY, sets his soul on fire; this guy is making a mockery of everything he stands for... He is fallen, he must be brought to justice... it's said SEVERAL times in the book he's got... like... “falcon” eyes; like a strong, piercing gaze. So that's what I was going for.

Anyways, please comment and enjoy!

I realise now that Javert is put a villain at all, he is just driven.
In the Liam Neeson film version I didn't like him much but in the 2012 movie his personality comes through more.
He is indeed very lion-like!
