And yea I agree, this scene made me cry too...and it also made me love Tai even more xD because before we met his sister Tai was known as an immature leader who can be a total jerk at times. But in this episode you see a total soft spot he has for Kari.
He's a very protective brother; which explained how Tai was able to sympathize with Matt anytime he was having brotherly woes involving TK and why TK gravitated to Tai... Tai's a brother too
I never watched Digimon as a kid
OH NO?! That's ok... it was probably weaning it's way into the new-ish season by the time you may have caught even glimpses of it; that's ok
